THIS YEAR'S ENTRY

Having watched their neighbours Estonia and Latvia win and then host the contest, Lithuania briefly turned the tables with their best ever result in Athens in 2006, with the famous novelty entry "We Are The Winners", last year however Lithuania returned to form that has only seen one Top 10 result since entering the contest in 1994.

This year the Lithuanian broadcaster LRT had a smaller than usual selection process, but it still involved three semi-finals, before the fourteen song final staged in Vilnius on February 2nd. In the end, less than 500 televotes separated the winner from the runner-up as the Lithuanian public chose "Nomads In The Night" sung by Jeronimas Milius as their 2008 Eurovision Song Contest entry.

Jeronimas Milius is a Lithuanian born singer and songwriter born on 11th October 1984 in the country's capital city; Vilnius. From early childhood before going to sleep,he was listening to blues and singing in the pupils choir of Vilnius, Gabija Gymnasium. Since 2003 Jeronimas has been the lead singer in a heavypower metal band called the Soul Brothers.

During his student years in the Vilnius College of Higher Education Jeronimas and his band successfully participated in music festivals such as Fresh Blood, Doors, Rock Nights (2005 and 2006), Broadway Star (Award for Best Vocal), Eurorock and alternative music awards A.LT 2006. During the last four years Jeronimas has worked at a telecommunications company. Meanwhile he has also found time to strengthen his vocal technique with his vocal teachers: the well-known Lithuanian singers Ceslovas Gabalis and Povilas Meskela.

In 2007 Jeronimus was discovered by musical theatre producers and was invited to perform the role of Clopen in the staging of "Notre Dame De Paris". Currently Jeronimas performs with his teachers in the side project Three Peppers.

April 2008 sees the first album of Soul Brothers being released and it is with this band, that Jeronimas plans his future as an artist. Jeronimas states that his dream is “To become a famous metal music artist all over the world ,and to get touring with my band until complete extinction”!.

Having already performed as a backing singer in the Lithuanian National Final in 2007, this year Jeronimus took his moment, literally in the spotlight. "Nomads In The Night" not only features the vocal talents of Jeronimas Milius, but he also wrote the lyrics as well. The music was written by Vytautas Diškevicius, who like Jeronimus, will be making his Eurovision debut in Belgrade.

The victory of "Nomads In The Night" was one of the bigger surprises in this year's Eurovision selections, despite the fact that he had already one a semi-final. The song is one of the bookmakers outsider for victory in Belgrade, and fan polls also give the Lithuanian entry very little chance of success in Belgrade.

It seems we're nomads in the night
Your cold turns me into the heartless
Until the sunrise burning light

TEN YEAR FORM GUIDE

WEBMASTER REVIEW

How to make three minutes feel like three hours, three long painful hours. As uninspiring piece of pomp rock balladry as you could imagine and once again Lithuania has "last in the semi-final"  written all over it, with only neighbours and diaspora being their only hope.

REVIEWS

"Interesting choice by Lithuania, but if only he could sing! He can’t reach the keys and he is always off tune even in the studio version. The performance is rather dull and boring and he need some work with his accent." - Atmantas (Greece)

"Another weak singer trying to sing a dull ballad. The emphasis on trying and not succeeding." - David Berliner (Israel)

"A very strong and beautiful ballad of Lithuania this year! Every time I listen to this beautiful song, I get chills (in a good way of course)! This could be a song from a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber! This simply deserves to qualify for the final and do very well!" - Nicky Peeters (Belgium)

"It looks like a song for suicide, but in facts, it’s a good ballad and he has a really great voice. The male Celine Dion?" - Yom (France)

"A typical musical number, it didn't work well for Norway at Eurovision so it might be difficult for Lithuania to score, which is a pity actually cause I kinda like it - can they hope on the jury, we'll see - Paul Hutter (Germany)

"The song/artist combination just doesnt seem to sync for me. Maybe they will fix it in coming months, he has the voice for the right song to be sure, but at this stage this entries' future looks bleak. Will be very interesting if he makes the final to see if he gets the 12 from Ireland." - Andrew Hordern (Australia)

"I just can’t get my head around this song, it’s such a strange composition. A great shame too as they had a terrific little song in 2007. I’m also pretty sure that this has almost no chance of qualifying and will be murdered on stage in Belgrade!" - John Withers (U.K.)
