THIS YEAR'S ENTRY

As part of Yugoslavia, Montenegro sent two entries to the Eurovision Song Contest in the 1980s and in 2005, Serbia & Montenegro's entry also originated from the small nation on the Adriatic. Montenegro re-gained independence in 2006 and the following year in Helsinki, they made their Eurovision debut as a separate entity, failing to qualify from the semi-final, a fate which also befell their entry in 2008.

This year, RTCG decided to have an internal selection with an open call to songwriters in December. On January 23rd, the entry was announced. The up-tempo pop song "Just Get Out Of My" life would be the first Montenegrin Eurovision entry sung in English and the performer would be a local singer 23 year old star Andrea Demirovic.

Initially the songwriters were announced as being José Juan Santana Rodriguez, Peter Match, Gunter Johansen. While lyricist Jose Juan Santana Rodriguez was familiar as a member of the Spanish OGAE fanclub, his co-writers were using pseudonyms. Composer Ralph Siegel and lyricist Bernd Meinunger have more experience of the Eurovision Song Contest than any other songwriters. 2009 marks the 25th anniversary of Sigel's first entry and the 20th anniversary of Meinunger's debut.

"Just Get Out Of My Life" is the nineteenth Eurovision entry by German Ralph Siegel since composing "Bye Bye , I Love You", Luxembourg's entry in 1974. He also also written entries for Switzerland and Germany, including the only German Eurovision winner; "Ein Bisschen Frieden" (A Little Peace) sung by Nicole in 1982. Meanwhile Bernd Meinunger is involved in his eighteenth Eurovision entry, since his debut with "Dschinghis Khan" in 1979. He has co-written many songs with Siegel, including the German 1982 winner.

Andrea Demirovic was born on 17th June, 1985. in Podgorica, Montenegro. She graduated from the Music School in Bar. As a fifteen-year-old girl she moved to Kotor to finish Music High School. Today Andrea is a student of the Music Academy in Cetinje, Department of Music Pedagogy.

Her first public appearance was in 2002 at the festival Suncane Skale in Herceg-Novi, which was the turning point in her professional career. Many more festival appearances followed, in her country and in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. A few months latter, she made an appearance at the Suncane Skale festival again, performing her hits "Sta Ce Mi Dani" and "Planina", showing how much she has grown as an artist.

Her first album, "Andrea" was released in 2006, after two years of preparation. The songs and lyrics were the work of famous Croatian singer/writer/composer Vesna Pisarovic, with one song written by Andrea. The CD was published by the biggest publishers in Serbia - City Records and Limark. Shortly after the CD was realised, Andrea's producers from Limark Company presented her to agents of the British company Vord, and they showed a lot of interest in her.

Their first project was the offer to make a duet song with Italian singer Massimo Bertacci. Right after that, the successful author team, Mr. Rafael Artesero and Mr. Jose Juan Santana Rodriguez from Spain showed an interest to work with Andrea as well. Three songs were recorded; "The Queen Of The Night", "And Now" and "Ley Ley Le", all of which appear on Andrea's next CD.

The first public performance of "Just Get Out Of My Life" was at the Greek national final on February 18th and the early bookmakers odds showed the song among the front runners for Moscow. While the Montenegrin entry has drifted slightly since, it remains one of the favourites to qualify from the first semi-final and unlike Montenegro's previous entries, it has done reasonably well in several fan polls.

TEN YEAR FORM GUIDE

WEBMASTER REVIEW

"It's certainly a complete contrast to their previous Eurovision entries and the most easily accessible of all the entries from the former Yugoslavia, however I can't help thinking that the performance will need to be something pretty special to be remembered after all the other songs have been performed " - Keith Mills

AN ALTERNATIVE VIEW

"Who would have guessed, Siegel is back, this time with a song for Montenegro. It is different from his last Eurovision songs, more pop than schlager, and also a lot better than his Swiss entry from 2006. The singer is not really known though and much will depend on her vocal skills and the performance. The early draw is not helpful either but Montenegro has never had better chances of qualifying." - Paul Hutter

AND FINALLY...

If it was on the menu it would be Cevapcici. From the Balkans, but with a certain Germanic familiarity.
