THIS
YEAR'S ENTRY
SELECTION
After a Top 5 result
in 2008 and winning the contest in
record-breaking fashion, it was no surprise that
Norwegian broadcaster NRK opted for the same
selection process, to choose the the host
country's Eurovision entry for Oslo.
The first of three semi-finals began on January
8th, with two songs qualifying from each show..
The top two songs in each semi-final, chosen by
televoting qualified for the final, while the
3rd & 4th placed songs progressed to a fourth
semi-final where they had a second chance to
qualify for the final.
Eight songs competed in thee Norwegian Melodi
Grand Prix Final which was held on February 6th
at the Spektrum Arena in Oslo and hosted by
Marte Stokstad & Per Sundnes. The winner was
chosen in two rounds of voting, the first to
select the top four, and the second to select
the winner. In the first round, televoting alone
was used, while in the second round the winner
was chosen by four regional juries and a second
round of televoting.
BIOGRAPHY
Didrik
Solli-Tangen was born on a summer day twenty-two
years ago outside of Porsgrunn, a town situated
a couple of hours south west of Oslo, Norway. He
had a typical Norwegian childhood and among his
interests were off-road biking, skateboarding
and of course, music.
At 15 years-old, Didrik formed a band with some
friends and became a drummer. One day, the lead
singer wanted some back-up harmonies, and he
turned to Didrik. Didrik had discovered his
voice; he started performing in front of
classmates and family, and joined the local
"high-school musical."
His father got Didrik a professional voice
coach, Anders Vangen, the best vocal coach in
the area. Didrik’s father wanted his son to move
in a classical direction, but Didrik adamantly
refused; he was heavily inspired by Robbie
Williams and his likes. However, his coach
slowly introduced him to great operatic singers
and it didn`t take long before Didrik learned to
hit the high "C".
Didrik is currently a full-time student at the
highly acclaimed Barratt Due Institute of
performing arts in Oslo. Didrik met composer
Hanne Sørvaag at the Eurovision Song Contest
pre-selections in Skien, Norway. She hails from
Stavanger, Norway, and now lives in Stockholm,
Sweden. Together with well-known Swedish
tune-smith Fredrik Kempe she wrote Didrik’s
entry to the national competition.
On February 6th 2010, Didrik won the national
finale at Oslo Spektrum, and he feels honoured
and proud to represent Norway in the European
finals at Fornebu Arena on May 29th with "My
Heart Is Yours".
REACTION
"My Heart Is You" began a major hit in
Norway, after being selected for Eurovision but
Didrik Solli-Tangen has done little
international promotion. The Norwegian entry was
an early pace-setter in fan polls and with
bookmakers, but has tended to drift back in he
rankings as we get closer to the contest and the
song can now be backed at 28/1 to win.
