THIS
YEAR'S ENTRY
SELECTION
Due to a series of
poor results and the current economic climate,
there were early reports that Poland may join
the list of countries that would not be in Oslo.
However TVP decided to continue their Eurovision
participation and announced an open call for
songs at the end of 2009, with the requirement
that the entries had to be the work of Polish
citizens. "Wild Cards" were given to some
entries and ten songs competed in the Polish
national final, which was held on February 14th
at the TVP studios in Warsaw, hosted by
Aleksandra Rosiak & Artur Orzech. The winner was
chosen by text voting. The runaway winner,
taking over one third of the votes was "Legenda"
performed by Marcin Mroziński.
BIOGRAPHY
Marcin Mrozinski was
chosen to represent Poland this year, with a
song by himself and Marcin Nierubiec. His fans
have high hopes for the entry, what do you think
of it?
Marcin Mrozinski is a 24-year-old singer and
actor. He also writes and composes his own
songs. He was 8-year-old when debuting in TV
kindershow 5-10-15 and later took part in most
of children's song contests in Poland always
achieving top scores.
Since then, Marcin has a lot of success as actor
and singer. He hosts a Cartoon Network
production Staraoke recorded in MTV’s studio in
London as well and currently he is working on
his first solo album.
Marcin is an actor currently starring in four
theatre productions in Poland, The Phantom of
the Opera, Boyband, Piosenka Jest Dobra Na
Wszystko and Notre Dame l'Histoire concert based
on musical Notre Dame de Paris and he was also
selected to star in another musical, Les
Miserables which premieres in September in
Warsaw.
His overwhelming victory in the Polish national
selection makes him the 15th representative of
his country. Marcin’s fans believe the song will
be a legendary contribution to the contest.
The composer of the song, Marcin Nierubiec is a
songwriter and composer. He has cooperated with
many top Polish artists like Doda, Maryla
Rodowicz, Krzysztof Krawczyk, Michał Bajor,
Michał Rudaś and others.
Marcin Nierubiec also composes
his music for theatre plays, TV programmes and
children. His sacral Hymn to Saint Stanisław
Kostka was performed on the occasion of
celebrations devoted to late Pope John Paul II.
REACTION
"Legenda" was one of the favourites to win the
Polish selection, but since being chosen it has
not fared well on internet polls. Bookmakers
have also been unenthusiastic, not including
Poland among the favourites to qualify for the
final and with odds of 300/1, it is one of the
biggest outsiders for victory in Oslo.
