THIS YEAR'S ENTRY

 SELECTION
Slovenian broadcaster RTVSLO decided to make two changes for this year's EMA. It was decided tha the entry in Oslo would be sung in Slovene and that the often controversial jury was dropped in favour of allowing the public alone to decide the entry.

The Slovenian Eurovision selection was staged over two nights. A fourteen song semi-final was held on February 20th with seven songs, chosen by the public, qualifying to join seven pre-selected finalists, on the following evening. The show, staged in Gospodarsko Razstavisce in Ljubljana was hosted by Lorella Flego & Andrea F and produced a runaway winner. "Narodnozabavni Rock" (Popular Folk Rock" performed by Ansambel Roka 四indre & Kalamari scored more than four times as many votes as the runner-up, becoming one of this year's easiest winners of a national final.

 BIOGRAPHY
Slovenia's entry combines two musical styles into one this year: the unique collaboration of Ansambel 四indra & Kalamari will perform their Popular Folk Rock song - or in its native Slovene: "Narodnozabavni Rock" - in the second Semi-Final of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest.

The Slovene representatives for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 harmoniously amalgamate two music genres, as the title of the song states: Popular Folk Rock. The Ansambel 四indra of course represents the first part of the song, popular folk. Rok 四indra has performed at different events with his accordion since a young age, but his greatest wish was to have his own musical group. Rok therefore invited their singer Barbara to join him. At a party, he met Rok Modic and through him Nejc Drobnič. Their debut as a group was followed by numerous festivals and awards. In 2007, they released their first CD with 13 songs entitled "Najlep啼 Je, Kadar Sva Skupaj" (The Most Precious Time Is When We Are Together).

The inception of the Kalamari group was in November 1993, when three of the members joined forces for a few performances in one of the Slovene coastal hotels. Due to their professional performance and harmonious trio of voices they were immediately noticed by both audience and experts. They tried their luck with original songs very soon and in 1995 released a CD entitled "Dobra Vila" (Good Fairy). The CD contained a few radio hits aside from the title song, but they gained wider recognition in Slovenia through the release of their second CD entitled "S Tabo Dr枴m" (I'm On Your Side). Their most recent CD, their 7th altogether, was released in November 2009.

 REACTION
Despite a very good reaction in the local market, the Slovenian entry is one of the outsiders with bookmakers, at 300/1 to win the contest and not among the songs that are seen as qualifying from the second semi. The song is also not performing well in most internet polls.

TEN YEAR FORM GUIDE

WEBMASTER REVIEW

"I could never understand why RTVSLO stuck by their often controversial jury, but given what happens when the Slovenian public are given the chance to pick they entry on their own, it makes sense. Why this dreadful concoction may appeal in he taverns of Ljubljana, I can't see it having any international appeal. Not only do I think it won't qualify, I think it will be last in semi two and could end up without scoring a point." - Keith Mills

AN ALTERNATIVE VIEW

"A compelling refrain that certainly penetrates. Some will love it, but others will shirk in agony." - David Berlinger (Israel)
