THIS
YEAR'S ENTRY
SELECTION
For the third year
in a row, Spanish broadcaster TVE decided to
have an open selection and allow all Spanish
citizens or those normally resident in Spain to
submit potential Eurovision entries. These were
then put online for three weeks of international
internet voting, ending on February 5th. After
several disqualifications, the Top 10 progressed
to the final.
The Spanish Final ("El Rerorno" )was held on
February 22nd at the Buñuel Studios in Madrid,
hosted by Anne Igartiburu and Ainhoa Arbizu. The
winner was chosen by televoting and a panel of
experts. The winner of both elements of he
voting was singer/songwriter Daniel Diges and a
song that he has co-written, "Algo Pequeñito"
(Something Tiny).
BIOGRAPHY
Daniel Diges has watched the Eurovision Song
Contest since he was a child and he has always
dreamed of taking part in it. This year his
dream came true and he'll represent Spain in
Oslo.
Daniel Diges is an experienced singer and actor,
who cut his teeth as a live singer on stage. He
was recently awarded the Spanish national
theatre prize for the best musicals' actor.
Diges has starred in the great majority of hit
musicals which have been staged in Spain.
Besides music and theatre, Daniel has wide
television experience as an actor in many drama
and comedy series, and also as presenter and
singer on a weekly children’s show.
His song, with a classical waltz base, speaks on
the passionate and desperate need for those
everyday details, so important but sometimes
forgotten: a caress, a kiss, an apology, a
flower. Little things, even tiny things that are
very important in order to maintain an eternal
love.
REACTION
"Algo Pequeñito" was something of a surprise
winner in the Spanish selection, but the song
immediately became highly popular in most
internet polls. However with little
international promotion and after drawing the
traditionally unlucky #2 position in the running
order, the bookmakers odds have increased and
Spain can now be backed at 125/1 to win he
contest in Oslo. However the song is doing well
in the Spanish charts helped by one of the best
promotional videos of the year.
