THIS
YEAR'S ENTRY
SELECTION
Despite a run of
comparatively poor results in recent years,
Croatian broadcaster HRT decided to stick with
the same selection process as the last few
years. Croatia's entry for Oslo was chosen
over two evenings. Sixteen songs competed in the
semi-final the Dora which was held on March 5th
in the Crystal Ballroom of Hotel Kvarner in
Opatija and hosted by Nevena Rendeli, Mirko
Fodor & Duško Curlic. The top eight songs,
chosen by televoting, qualified for the final
where they joined eight other songs that were
pre-qualified to the final. The following
evening, the same venue and presenters hosted
the final, where a jury and public televote,
selected the winner. The female vocal group
Femminem, won both the jury and public votes,
with their song "Lako Je Sve" (Everything Is
Easy) and thus enter the Eurovision record book
as being the first group to represent two
different countries in Eurovision, having
competed for Bosnia-Herzegovina in Kyiv in 2005.
BIOGRAPHY
No strangers to the Eurovision Song Contest
having been in already in 2005, Croatia's
girl-group Femminem will try their best to
achieve a good placing for their country.
Feminnem was founded in 2004 at the initiative
of Croatian composer Đorđe Novković, when, after
the Croatian Idol TV show ended, its three
finalists decided to form a girl band and thus
become professional musicians. A year later,
having won national final in Bosnia and
Herzegovina, the band performed at the
Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev with the song
Call Me (Zovi). Their first studio album,
Feminnem Show, was named after a very popular TV
show at the BHT1 channel of the national
television of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which the
girls hosted. Having released a number of hits,
Feminnem won the status of the first girl band
in the region. Pamela Ramljak and Neda Parmać
have had to change the third member of the group
two times since the founding of the band, but
since the arrival of Nika Antolos, they are
certain that this will be the permanent and
final Feminnem. Their new album, named after the
Eurovision song Everything Is Easy, was made in
collaboration with author and producer Branimir
Mihaljević, who deserves credit for music and
production of their hits in the last few years,
while almost all the lyrics were written by the
members of the band itself. Apart from Branimir,
they collaborated on the new album with the
producer Luiz Rodriguez (Modern Talking) for the
duet with the Spanish teen star Alex Manga, as
well as with Freddie J. Cooper (Boyz II Men).
One of the songs from the album was
reinterpreted by the Bulgarian star Preslava. At
this year’s Croatian contest for the Eurovision
Song Contest, Dora 2010, they secured their trip
to Oslo by a maximum of votes both from the jury
and the televote.
REACTION
From the moment it was chosen, Croatia's entry
was seen as a strong contender. Despite
little foreign promotion, Croatia is one of the
favourites to qualify from the second semi-final
and with best available odds of 25/1, it's also
one of the bookmakers Top 10 choices for overall
victory. Croatia is also in the Top 10 in almost
every internet poll.

TEN YEAR FORM
GUIDE
WEBMASTER REVIEW
"This is my favourite ballad in
this year's contest. The melody is
strong, the performance is dramatic
and the whole package looks and
sounds perfect. Serbia proved in
2007 that a ballad in this language
can do very well and I think that
this is a guaranteed finalist and
with the right draw, could bring
Croatia their first victory as an
independent country." -

AN
ALTERNATIVE VIEW
"Croatia normally does well and
the song is ok. Their biggest
difficulty is getting out to the
final. It is a tough semi, but
surely neighbourly voting will push
it there. On the other hand this is
one that could get lost and fail to
progress. " - Sean Ryan
